REGULATORY INSIGHTS
Notes on regulations coming into force and being amended — what operators are required to do, and what they should be recording. We monitor the relevant instruments and standards daily, and write when something changes that affects practice. Each note reflects publicly available material and is not legal advice.
More notes are available in Japanese: 規制解説.
The photo-ID-image method is retired in favour of IC chip reading. Three amending orders overlap, there are no transitional measures, and one widely repeated requirement does not appear in the primary sources.
Disclosure for interactive AI, deepfake labelling, machine-readable marking. The extraterritorial basis for reaching operators outside the EU, and why labelling alone is not the hard part.
